Do you want to earn as a writer on web? Read on …
Many people dream of seeing their writings published. They hope to have a large readership and a larger bank account through their written works. If you are among those pining for literary fame - voila!
Your dream can come true! Only a few years back, this would have been a tough proposition. But today things are vastly different because of Internet and its Web2.0 tools.
Not only will you get millions of readers through your articles but also good remuneration and useful feedback- and all this without having to run after that elusive publisher or that perfect story line.
The World Wide Web has changed the very nature of writing. People write about their daily experiences, their jobs, their finances, their vacations, their romances and even their dogs and cats on the web. Website writing could be about anything or nothing and still get you money or at the very least a few readers. But, writers beware – writing for web is very different from writing for the print media.
The differences
First, let us consider how Internet and print media are different. Print media could be newspapers, magazines, newsletters, novels, all of which might have a limited shelf life. Internet, on account of its ubiquity and near permanent nature, might ensure that the contents on websites last indefinitely.
Another point is that print media have targeted audiences while Internet has a huge disparate population of information hungry people.
Editors (depending upon your experiences with them), might revive or kill the articles on print media. On the other hand, website writing often does not require going through editors and so the web writer is responsible for most of his content here.
The Similarities
Perhaps, the only similarity between web and print material is that they both must have logical flow of content, correct grammar and spellings.
And, yes, both the print writer and the web writer need to develop very thick skins. The one going for the print media has to bear with the constant rejections of picky editors while the one writing for web may have to brace himself against the scathing comments of fussy readers.
If you are considering writing for the web, watch this space! We will be back with more…
