What initiated you to start this business?
It was basically for time pass that I started this business, which later on went on to become a serious and full fledged business.
How long have you been running this business?
I have been running this business for the past 35 years. Initially I was the only person involved in it, but later on my daughters have also extended a helping hand.
Who is your role - model?
I have never had any role - model.
How did your family react when you proposed this idea of starting business?
My family was very supportive when I proposed this idea of business. My husband encouraged me to learn a lot of new patterns in mehendi designing.
Who are your target audience?
My main target audiences are brides and their relatives.
What are your goals for the year ahead?
I am looking forward to expand the business by hiring two other girls who are very good at designing mehendi.
What was your initial investment for the business?
Since my business involved only purchasing mehendi cones, my initial investment of Rs.100.
Did you face any hurdles as an entrepreneur?
Yes. I did face initial hurdles, as I did not invest any money in advertising, so it took time to people to recognize my abilities.
What are your tips to fellow entrepreneurs?
My tips to fellow entrepreneurs are to be confident and face the initial hiccups bravely, And never give up.
How do you multitask home and business?
My day starts at 5:00AM. I complete all my household work and then leave home for work.
How much time do you devote to your business per day?
I work for almost 10 to 12 hours a day. Since my work involves travelling from one bride's house to the other.
12. When did you achieve your break even profit?
Since my capital was small I could, take it back the very first time itself as I charge Rs.1250 for a bridal mehendi.
13.Is your business profitable?
Yes. The business that I am doing is extremely profitable.
How did you establish your client base?
Business has spread by word of mouth and quality workmanship.
Have you thought of taking up some training to improve your business?
Yes. I underwent training during the initial years of my business.
What is the competition like in the business?
I hardly have competition in my business. People, who know the quality of my work, come over to me every time there is a wedding in their families
What are the challenges you face in doing your business?
Sometimes, I might have to work for 10 to 12 hours a day, which takes a toll on my health.
How does your family cooperate in running this business?
My family is very supportive. During the initial years of my business, my husband helped me a lot by taking care of daughter
How has this business helped you grow as a person? /Has this business venture changed your personality or life?
The business has helped me establish a lot of contacts and has given me financial independence.
Do you propose to expand your business in terms of production, providing employment opportunities etc?
Not really. I'm quite happy with the way my business has shaped up. |
